This recipe for gluten free paleo jam thumbprint cookies is PERFECT for a clean eating Christmas!
If you have been reading our posts, then you are probably up to speed with me and my “clean eating journey,” as I call it. If you are new, to make a long story short, over two years ago I started clean eating and as a foodie who loves to eat food that actually tastes good, I have been on a crusade to find healthy recipes that taste good.

Funny story with this recipe–when I first made these cookies, my family was having a Christmas party and for some reason I felt like I needed to put out a disclaimer that it was a “healthy” recipe. You know, in case someone ate one, didn’t like it, and just thought I was a horrible cook. So I made a little table card for them that said “gluten-free cookies” and set the tray next to the sprinkle-covered “regular cookies,” if you will. To my surprise and delight, I came back to the dessert table halfway through the party and my paleo jam thumbprint cookies were GONE! That’s right, they were a huge hit! Since then, I have continued making them every Christmas, but now I leave off the disclaimer that they are “healthy,” since no one can tell the difference!
Given that this recipe is not only paleo, gluten-free, and refined-sugar-free, but also obviously tried-and-true, I knew I needed to share it! These cookies have become my go-to during the holidays. It’s very hard sticking to a clean eating diet with temptations all around, but I have found that having healthy alternatives is a lifesaver.
This is the original recipe I used for these cookies from Bakerita.com. Over time, I have adapted the recipe a little bit. I like to mix some chia seeds in to my sugar-free jam for an extra boost! I have also used half coconut flour when I didn’t have enough almond flour. However, I think using unblanched almond flour is the best way to go!

Paleo Jam Thumbprint Cookies
This is my tweaked version of the original recipe! I get 12 cookies per batch.
- 1 1/4 cup blanched almond flour
- 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 pinch salt to taste
- 1/4 cup sugar free jam
- 2 tsp chia seeds
In a medium bowl mix flour, coconut oil, syrup, and salt
Refrigerate for 30mins (can keep for up to 24 hours)
Pre-heat oven to 375°
Roll into 1in balls (mine are always a little bigger than an inch)
Put them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet
Mix together jam and chia seeds, set aside.
Use your thumb and press half way down on your dough balls. Fill the holes with the jam mix.
Bake for 10 mins until lightly golden. Cool and serve!
