The holidays are by far the hardest time to stick to a clean eating diet, so I wanted to compile and share with you my favorite clean eating holiday appetizers!
A tip before we get into the good stuff… When you are headed to a holiday party where you are almost positive there will be nothing good to eat besides a lame pre-cut veggie tray from the grocery store, make a protein shake loaded with leafy greens and nuts to have before you go. That will fill you up so you are not tempted to eat the bad stuff in a fit of “hanger.” But another good way to avoid that is to bring a healthy appetizer to the party! Here are some of my favorites:
For this recipe, I use plain, roasted pecans instead of candied ones to cut back on the sugar. I also skip the honey, and they are still super flavorful! The cranberries and basil give the dish a very festive feel. And nothing feels more like the holidays than sweet potatoes!
Prosciutto Melon Balls
These are so simple and you can’t get much “cleaner” than 2 ingredients, ham and melon! I like to use a high-quality, imported prosciutto ham and honeydew melon, but you can also use cantaloupe if you prefer. Scoop the melon balls with a melon baller, then wrap each with a small piece of prosciutto. Drizzle with a balsamic glaze, stick in a toothpick, and serve!
These are a great way to serve up some veggies, but also have them be super tasty! Use marinated artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, olives, cherry tomatoes, basil, marinated mozzarella (if you like), or even some Italian meats. Totally up to you! These are great, vegan or not! Drizzle your skewers with Italian dressing and serve!
I love this recipe! Hearty stuffed mushrooms are always a hit, and this recipe uses spinach and feta instead of cream cheese and bread crumbs for the stuffing!
This idea is terrific. Nuts are so simple and great for a clean eating diet. But yes, raw nuts can get very boring. This recipe uses shallots, rosemary, and a mix of seasoning to flavor the nuts. Whiel I haven’t tried to yet, I do want to make them once without the sugar. I also prefer to serve them a little on the warm side.
